The Condemnation of Big Government

From the beginning of the progressive movement more than a century ago their goal has been a massive Federal government run by experts and a legion of bureaucrats. They have long wanted to control our every move via regulation. As for us little people, we’re supposed to trust our betters running the government because after all they’re experts. We’re also supposed to trust that these people will be fair in their application of the regulations they expertly write and enforce. This is the government Obama and his progressive administration so desperately want. Yet when it comes down to administering such a government, it’s become quite clear that everyone from the top to the lowest level bureaucrat is incapable of fairly enforcing the never ending pages of government regulation.

The IRS scandal is a good example of the problem with massive government. Steven Miller, the man Obama didn’t actually fire but who was leaving at the end of his term in June, testified before Congress yesterday. He claims the IRS did nothing illegal in targeting conservative groups. He may very well be right, there may be no Federal law or regulation preventing this targeting. Us little people are expected to trust the IRS to fairly apply the regulations they create, yet it’s clear we can’t trust them. The IRS asked one pro-life group for the content of their prayers. They targeted conservative hispanic groups and engaged in political intimidation for years. The IRS stalled conservative groups for years but of course gave speedy approval to Obama’s groups.

Obama acted outraged when he “discovered” the IRS scandal allegedly last week. Funny thing about the original public disclosure, it was via a planted question. The IRS knew about the targeting in 2011 and did nothing about it. The White House knew in June 2012 and did nothing about it. Why? Because it would hurt Obama’s re-election chances. Just like the Benghazi talking points memo, the Obama administration wanted to keep information from the American people because it would hurt the President’s re-election chances. So they don’t tell us about terrorism or al Qaeda ties in Benghazi, they don’t tell us about subpoena’s of AP journalists phone records over a “leak.” The interesting thing about that scandal is that the administration was simply paying the AP back for reporting the story one day before the administration planned on crowing about the foiled al Qaeda plot. Beat the administration to the punch and they’ll harass you.

Not even Chris Matthews is buying the administration line on the IRS scandal. Where Matthews and the left will get this scandal wrong is that they’ll blame low level bureaucrats and mistakes made within the Obama administration. What the public ought to take away from these scandals is that big government cannot be trusted. They’ll use the IRS to target political groups they don’t like then cover it up until after an election. They’ll punish the press for printing stories the government doesn’t want printed. They’ll not provide the public with information that makes the government and its leaders look bad. Then when called out for all of their misdeeds, the government and its leaders will either blame the opposition or claim their own incompetence. Of course don’t you dare suggest smaller government, that would be an outrage. You should be controlled by your betters in government, they know best! If they target conservatives in the IRS nonprofit office, they’ll get promoted to the Obamacare department of the IRS. Don’t question our betters.

Perhaps there is something positive to having Obama in the White House. We’re getting a chance to see that the progressive vision of big government doesn’t work. The progressives are incapable of managing the massive government they so badly want. They’re also incapable of fairly applying the laws and regulations they pass. They don’t need the Tea Party protesting in Washington to destroy the public’s idea of big government. The progressives merely need to expose themselves via their own expansion and mismanagement of government. They’ve shown themselves incompetent and unfair. They’ve shown themselves willing to target, with the massive power of government, anyone who questions them or challenges them. It’s been a long time since such a good case was made for the conservative vision of smaller government. Obama has been good for something after all.

Democrats Seek Obamacare Opt Out For Congress, Boehner Says No

It appears Congressional Democrats aren’t too happy that they and their staff are subjected to Obamacare. The original bill did not exempt Congress from the bill and thus Congressmen and their staff are stuck buying health insurance from the exchanges. Rather than save money, it appears that it’s likely to cost Congressional aides as much as $7,000. For a fresh out of college new staffer making $25,000, Obamacare becomes a cost prohibitive career move. Most of the Democrats are seeking to sneak a provision in that would exempt Congress. After some relatively secret talks, Speaker Boehner wants a full repeal rather than a Congressional exemption.

While Congressional Democrats are concerned about their staffers, they also reveal what they’re really worried about. They’re worried about a “brain drain” as smart people move away from work in Congressional offices because of the cost of health insurance thanks to Obamacare. This is part of the problem we have in this country, the supposedly intelligent people are being recruited to work for government rather than the private sector. The Federal government shouldn’t be in competition with the private sector for the best and brightest. If Obamacare forces these people into the private sector because government work isn’t lucrative enough, we should rejoice.

Interestingly enough the Democrats aren’t in the least bit concerned about what Obamacare is going to do to the rest of the country. They’re only concerned with themselves and their staff. That Obamacare will add a massive new tax on people who don’t buy insurance isn’t of much concern to them. Neither is the growing practice of cutting hours so that employees won’t be entitled to health insurance under Obamacare. That’s if employers aren’t dumping employees altogether to avoid the cost of Obamacare. The Democrats aren’t interested in any of that they’re only interested in protecting themselves.

If Boehner holds firm here we should at least give him a little credit. He’s going to subject Congress to the same laws everyone else is subjected to. Surely this can’t be a popular move among Congressional staffs, even within the GOP Caucus. It probably isn’t particularly popular with Congressmen who rely on their Congressional salaries (not all of them are millionaires, many sleep in their offices because they can’t afford a DC apartment). Boehner is doing the right thing though, it may actually be a move that boosts his popularity and perhaps the popularity of Congress. Everyone hates it when Congress exempts themselves, when the Speaker forces Congress to live by the asinine laws they subject everyone else to he’ll at least get some credit.

That Congressional aides are going to be subjected to massive costs because of Obamacare ought to wake Congress up to the fact that this bill is going to be a massive boondoggle beginning next year. It’s expensive, it’s added costs. It doesn’t insure a single person who didn’t have insurance before. The Democrats have to know it’s a big mess, odds are they’re happy about it because it will give them cause to demand single payer socialism in the 2016 or 2020 campaigns. The question is whether the GOP will be able to parlay this boondoggle into a 2016 victory, which could lead to outright repeal or substantial repeal of Obamacare. In the very least, for the time being Congress will be subjected to the same disaster as the rest of us. I hope the staffs of every Congressman feel quite a bit of Obamacare pain.

Left Finally Beginning To Admit Climate Change A Farse

The British left-wing publication The Economist has had the unmitigated audacity to point out that global warming hasn’t occurred in a decade. The Economist has been harping climate change/global warming for years. They note that 25% of the man made CO2 since 1750 was released during the last decade yet there is no evidence of global warming. World temperatures are flat. They have arguably been flat for 20 years. No doubt The Economist will be labeled a heretic publication by diehard climate change adherents. Such people have taken this issue to near religious levels of faith. For the rest of us, it confirms our skepticism and it confirms our opposition to massive government intrusion into our economic lives.

The environmentalist left made a fundamental error decades ago. They tried to scare to world into supporting their socialist policies by making up wild stories about the world practically ending if we didn’t “do something” about global warming. When I was a kid, in 5th grade, we were taught that in a few years there would be no Amazon Rainforest. It was a total lie of course but generally speaking 5th graders aren’t in a position to know that. From there we’ve been told tales of rising oceans, stifling heat, massive weather events and the end of civilization as we know it. None of it has happened.

Even with the media hyping every weather event, most people have retained at least a bit of common sense. It’s hot in the summer here in the US, it’s hardly shocking when it hits 100 for a week or two. There are hurricanes that hit the southeast and Gulf coast, it’s hardly surprising when they happen. In fact, they’re down over the past few years and their intensity isn’t nearly as high today as it was in the 50′s and 60′s. There are big thunderstorms in the plains and midwest, it’s hardly surprising when they happen and it’s surely no evidence of some sort of dire man made climate change that will end civilization.

Just a few years ago the media was hyping the “hottest” summer ever in Europe. Where are they now as Europe experiences cold winters and mild summers? Just because it’s hot during a few summers in the two parts of the Earth that are dominated by the world’s media, it doesn’t prove global warming. In fact, world temperatures are at best flat over the last 20 years. All of the dire predictions have been proven wrong. The oceans aren’t rising, civilization isn’t threatened, weather isn’t dramatically changing. In short, the socialists made a fundamental error when they decided to try to scare people into action. They didn’t take into account that 1. countries wouldn’t do much and 2. that their predictions would turn out wrong.

With all of the dire predictions proven false, no one believes the climate change socialists anymore. No one is particularly scared about the future of weather and as such no one is compelled to demand action. In fact, m0st people laugh at the foolishness of it all. No doubt climate change still has it’s diehard believers. Some are scientists who have staked their careers and reputations on climate change. They’re unlikely to change no matter how inaccurate their predictions are, to do so would admit their careers were a waste and a failure. There are still socialists out there who view climate change as a means to an end but even these folks are beginning to look elsewhere for such a means. In short, climate change is a crock, we all know it and the left is just beginning to acknowledge the lie.

Rejoice! Hugo Chavez Is Dead

Venezuela’s socialist dictator Hugo Chavez is no more having died of cancer earlier today. Chavez has been a hero of the left for years, despite being a murderer who has ransacked Venezuela. The anti-capitalist dictator allegedly racked up a personal fortune of over $2 billion. Money for me but not for thee seems to be the norm for these maniacal socialist dictators. Chavez spent much of his career attacking those with money and those who dared disagree with them. They no doubt rejoice tonight, though they must be concerned about the socialists who are mobilizing the military.

The media is of course pretending like Chavez was some sort of hero of the people while ignoring his murderous tendencies. The left-wing mainstream press has a tendency to do this. Rep. Jose Serrano and George Galloway tweeted of his glories while mourning the death of the socialist dictator. Over in the UK, they’re reporting that the socialists in Venezuela believe the United States poisoned Chavez with cancer. The climate change crazies ought to go nuts over those claims. Bush perhaps might have taken the opportunity to take out Chavez. But Obama? We don’t even know what his policy was with Chavez.

Chavez was a despicable anti-American socialist. There wasn’t a single dictator he wouldn’t embrace so long as he opposed the United States. That seems to be the common thread among socialists the world over, they oppose out of hand the United States. Whether it’s the Islamic socialists or the socialist dictators of South America, opposition to the United States is a must. It really has little to do with our interference in their neck of the woods. It stems from the Cold War. We cannot forget that most of these dictators were trained by Moscow before the fall of communism. They continue to fall back on their original teachings, whether they hold any water in 2013 or not.

It will be interesting to see what the Obama administration response is. They can’t issue a fawning statement because Chavez spent most of his career attacking the US. On the other hand, Obama’s intellectual background is in the same anti-American rhetoric and theory as Chavez. Read what Obama had to say in the 90′s about the United States and compare it to Chavez. You probably can’t tell the difference between the two. Obama probably dreams of having the dictatorial powers that Chavez had. Complete with the ability to shut down hostile media and to murder difficult political opponents.

The people of Venezuela have a chance to get their country back. The socialism of Chavez didn’t work. Living conditions are no better than when he took over, they’re arguably worse. Chavez got personally rich off the oil industry but he didn’t share that wealth with the people. In that, he lied to them about what he was doing. He nationalized industry not for the benefit of the people but for the benefit of himself and his cronies. In doing so, he made Venezuela poorer, in the very least he didn’t make his constituency any better off. We must all pray that God would bless Venezuela with freedom and that he would call and save many in that country. Those who love freedom will rejoice that this evil dictator is now dead.

The Obama Economy: Negative Growth

The economy stalled completely in the 4th quarter of 2012. The Federal government’s initial report shows a 0.1% annual drop in real GDP. This isn’t just a massive drop from the third quarter’s 3.1% annual GDP growth, we’re entering negative territory. In entering negative territory we’re seriously running the risk of another recession. Considering that Britain is dangerously close to a triple dip recession (thanks in part to tax increases) and Europe is on the edge of implosion, another American recession would hardly come as a surprise. One can only imagine how Obama will blame Republicans for all of this.

Those who have been following the economy knew that the fourth quarter probably wasn’t going to be terrific. There was tax uncertainty, Obamacare uncertainty and sequestration uncertainty. The only one of those issues that has gone away is the tax issue as Congress and the President increased taxes on 80% of American workers. Obamacare remains up in the air as to its tax increases and reach into business and taxpayer pocketbooks. Sequestration was put off several months along with the debt ceiling. Those two major issues create uncertainty in the economy and make the investment environment unstable.

If we go back and look at the economic data over the past several months we can see any number of problems with the economy. The unemployment rate has remained generally steady but if you look at the details there are less people working today than at this time last year. The reason the unemployment rate hasn’t gone up is because the Obama administration simply removes the long term unemployed from the employment market. First time unemployment applications routinely come in above 350,000 a week. There has been a massive increase in the number of Americans on Social Security Disability as the government seems to be moving the long term unemployed onto SSI. Durable goods orders which have been unsteady and have generally declined. It’s a perfect storm for a negative growth quarter.

What is interesting in all of this is that the stock market appears to be booming. The Dow is approaching 14,000, a number never reached before. Oil is approaching $100/barrel again and gold is approaching $1,700/ounce. Oil tends to follow the stock market and gold tends to go up when the economy looks unstable. Over the past decade the stock market has had the appearance of operating outside the general economy. When the recession hit the stock market dropped dramatically. But it worked its way back up to 13,000 at the Dow despite the fact that the economy was at best growing slowly and at worst stagnating. Then the Dow went down dramatically last year only to pick up again as the economy slows down. Your 401k may be doing well today but the same can’t be said of the economy.

We have a President who has no idea how fix economic problems. He believes in top down progressive fascism or the more banal term state capitalism. It hasn’t worked, the government has no idea how to manage an economy. Obama has no idea how to create regulations that result in actual growth, he has no idea how tax increases negatively affect the economy. The economy begins and ends in Washington in Obama’s world and if it doesn’t work out he’ll just blame the enemy. Apparently the American people like that approach. I hope the country enjoys the Obama recession.

UPDATE: As predicted Obama blamed Republicans for fourth quarter negative growth. The President doesn’t believe he’s responsible for anything.

Obama Doubles Down On Socialism

Obama is doubling down on his socialist rhetoric. Not content to leave his socialist rhetoric to his inaugural address, Obama took to the airwaves over the weekend to attack “irresponsible behavior.” The President said:

Here in America, we know the free market is the greatest force for economic progress the world has ever known.  But we also know the free market works best for everyone when we have smart, commonsense rules in place to prevent irresponsible behavior.

This is basically the rhetoric of a state capitalist, fascist or run of the will Euro-socialist. Free markets are great, except when government deems their behavior “irresponsible.” Obama makes clear in the second sentence that the first is nothing but irrelevant window dressing. He doesn’t really believe a free market is the “greatest force for economic progress.” He believes government must control and regulate the free market so as to protect it from whatever the government arbitrarily decides is irresponsible.

Obama is running around blaming the GOP for all the problems of the world. He so much as said so in a recent New Republic interview. The interview is instructive because not only does he feel the need to weigh in on his “enemies” in the GOP, he also feels the need to pontificate on the safety of football. He’s doubling down on socialism, there isn’t a single area of American life that Obama doesn’t believe his opinion is relevant and necessary. We can’t even have our circus without the opinion of the President. Of course, ESPN spent the entire weekend touting Obama’s declaration. There is no escaping this man or politics, not even on a sports network.

Obama is back to attacking Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, pretending that if only those two problems were out of the way the GOP would be willing to compromise on gun control. He goes so far as to whine about gerrymandering, as though Democrats have never gerrymander Congressional districts. It’s his comments about Fox News and Limbaugh that are the most interesting. It’s clear that Obama believes conservatives are the problem and if only the GOP could get rid of those nasty conservatives a gun control bill could pass the House. He sounds a lot like the Republican DC establishment that generally feels the same way though relies on our votes to maintain their power.

Obama is not simply declaring war on the GOP, he’s declaring war on conservatives. He’ll get his war what he won’t be is victorious. By singling out John Boehner, claiming he would get a gun control deal done if it wasn’t for Limbaugh and Fox News (as though the NRA somehow doesn’t control the GOP and half the Democrats on this issue), Obama is guaranteeing that no deal will take place. Fox News is a liberal strawman but Limbaugh and other radio conservatives together have quite a bit of power in the Republican Party. Obama has now ensured that the people who listen to talk radio will double down in their efforts to pressure the GOP on this issue. Boehner now has ability to compromise, talk radio will rally the Tea Party faithful to challenge gun controlling Republicans in primaries now.

Obama is going to spend the next year waging outright war against conservatives and the Republican Party. He’s a lame duck, which both works against us and works in our favor. He no longer has to pretend he isn’t a socialist who is hellbent on eliminating conservative opinion from society. He so much as said so in his inaugural address when he declared the debate over and settled, which of course it is not. So we’ll be subjected to more of these attacks. The bright side is that after this year Obama’s power and relevance will diminish. After the midterms, which are only 21 months away, Obama will be completely irrelevant as his party begins to look for a new nominee. Until then, we must hit back against Obama’s socialism and we need to pressure the House not to succumb to his pressure.

After 40 Years And 55 Million Deaths, The Abortion Holocaust Continues

Yesterday Roe v. Wade turned 40. What does one say about the murder of nearly 55 million innocent lives? Nearly 40% of the babies killed have been black. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, would have been proud. Abortion is nothing more than an extension of the eugenics movement, embraced by progressives all over the world until faced with the horror of Hitler’s gas chambers. Eugenics is making a comeback on the left with “climate change” usually being the catalyst. Truth be told, eugenics never went away. In this country alone over 20 million black babies have been murdered while we turn the other away calling it a “choice.”

The left is completely disingenuous in their gun control demands, all based on “protecting” children. If the left wanted to protect children, they would oppose abortion. Instead they support the murder of over 1 million babies a year. The number of deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School is little more than a days work for a Planned Parenthood “doctor.” The left is pushing a culture of death on this nation, it begins with abortion. But it doesn’t end there. Sarah Palin’s notorious attack on Obamacare’s death panels is the next wave in the progressive culture of death. We have, at least for the moment, lost the abortion fight. With 40 years of abortions killing 55 million babies, how can we pretend we’re close to victory?

The next battle is going to be over end of life healthcare and care for terminally or mentally ill children. In Japan one high ranking government official wants the elderly to just “hurry up and die.” In Britain thousands of old people are sentenced to death by NHS every year. The argument for killing off these old people is the same as the argument for killing the unborn. They’re a financial cost to society and taxpayers. They contribute nothing while costing a small fortune. The left collectively become fiscal hawks when it comes to killing off the young and the old.

This is what happens when we start living in the collective that Obama is pushing. When taxpayers foot the bill for endless welfare and healthcare, people who use too much become expendable. In fact, they have to be eliminated in order to keep the system going for those who still contribute enough and/or are capable of keeping those in power in office. The unborn won’t contribute or vote for at least 18 years. The old have already contributed but are no longer capable of it and won’t be around long enough to matter.

This is the culture of death pushed by progressive, collectivists like Obama. The country goes right along with it because we have left our historic Christian faith. We’ve lost touch with the values our ancestors just a couple generations ago were taught. We’ve replaced the Christian faith with progressive secular humanism. The end result is that our society exalts celebrity, government and faux “education” while it murders 55 million unborn children in 40 years. We pretend to be terribly sophisticated and civilized to the point that it’s galling. Meanwhile we elect politicians who are setting up the next wave of death via socialist healthcare. We’re a decade away from the government cutting off funding for old people, dying or otherwise.

We Christians cannot hope to change our culture via government or law. The only way we can change the culture is through the church. We must get ourselves into God fearing churches that focus on sound, historic theology. We must invite our friends and neighbors to join us at church on Sunday. We must pull our children out of the godless government schools, we can no longer pretend like our kids are a light in the darkness. They’re no such thing, they’re impressionable covenant children. Most importantly we must pray to our Lord that he would call our nation back to Him. No amount of human action will change things for the better, that can only happen through God.

There Is No Global Warming

So-called global warming stopped 16 years ago. This according to the UK Meteorological Office, which for years has insisted that man made global warming was true. Those of us who have been skeptics of global warming (renamed climate change by socialists who have known for some time that global warming wasn’t happening) aren’t surprised by these findings at all. From the 30′s to the late 70′s there was no warming at all, in fact there was some global cooling. From 1980-1996 there was a slight warming. Since 1996 there hasn’t been any global warming at all. This all suggests that the global warming theory, as pushed by scientists and politicians, isn’t right.

The media of course won’t report any of this. Have you noticed the last few months all sorts of articles whining about the lack of Arctic ice? This is supposed to be evidence of global warming, after all if there wasn’t any warming then there wouldn’t be less ice at the North Pole. While the media spends there time fretting about global warming destroying Arctic ice, they’re ignoring the fact that there is record ice in Antarctica. In other words, while ice at one pole has melted the other pole has seen substantial ice increase. Because the media doesn’t report the record ice in Antarctica, people only see the Arctic ice melt and assume global warming is true.

Global warming has always been a flimsy theory. It’s largely based on computer models, of course those models require scientists to put data into them. These scientists, who are largely funded by governments, have reason to put data in that will give them the result that those who fund them want to hear. Governments love global warming because it gives pols and bureaucrats a reason to regulate our lives and businesses even more. They whip up hysteria over the fear of global warming and the alleged catastrophe they say it will be. Then people are more willing to give up their freedom to the government. Scientists know who butters their bread and so they produce studies that just so happen to recommend more government and more regulation.

Yet to say this makes one a conspiracy theorist or it makes one as associate of “big business.” You see, those who oppose global warming must hate the world and want us all to die or something like that. In fact, those who oppose the notion of man made global warming see right through the leftist lies. There is no global warming and even if there is there isn’t a shred of evidence that it is caused by man. Furthermore, there isn’t a shred of evidence that government could do anything to reverse global warming. It is absolutely illogical to believe that governments can control the temperature of the entire world via business regulations.

History shows us that the temperature of the Earth fluctuates. The period of the Renaissance was a high point in terms of global temperatures. They were higher than they are today, so high in fact that citrus fruits and grapes were grown in abundance in England. In fact, English wine was regarded as better than French wine at the time. That all changed with the mini ice age, which caused famine all over the world. It is the mini ice age that the world is slowly breaking away from today. All of these events happened before the rise of international governments, massive capitalistic multinational corporations, the assembly line or modern technology of any kind. Government was powerless to prevent the ice age, it was powerless to prevent the warming which brought plenty to the entire world during the Renaissance.

Government is powerless to control the climate today. Deep in their hearts, leftists know this to be the case. That won’t stop them from demanding regulations in a vain attempt to do what they are powerless to do. Their goals have nothing to do with actually controlling the climate though. Their goal is power and control over business and our lives. The socialist left will stop at nothing. They’ll make up a false crisis, pay scientists to create false data and lie through their teeth for decades on end to get what they want. Unfortunately the facts just don’t line up with the left’s desires. There is no global warming and no amount of game playing by changing the phrase to climate change can change the fact that their theory is false.

Election Becomes An Ideological Battle

The 2012 election is shaping up to be a battle between two competing ideologies. On the left we have Barack Obama who has promised bigger government and higher taxes and on the right we have Mitt Romney who promises lower taxes and smaller government. Okay, maybe we shouldn’t kid ourselves about Romney. He isn’t the second coming of Reagan, neither is Paul Ryan. In the very least though Romney promises to hit the pause button on socialism creep and he’s likely to roll back at least Obamacare. So we really do have two competing ideologies and a very clear choice that we voters have to make.

Recently Obama vowed to bail out more industries because according to him the auto bailout worked so well. One wonders what industries need bailing out, no one is clamoring for any these days. But was the auto bailout a success? If you’re a union yes but for everyone else it really wasn’t. GM wasn’t going to get liquidated in a bankruptcy, it was merely going to get its debt restructured. Few jobs would have been lost had a regular bankruptcy taken place. Instead Obama bailed out the auto industry and it cost taxpayers $25 billion. This President wants more of that.

Obama claims to offer a new vision of America where prosperity is shared. This is not the same vision of America most people have. In truth, prosperity has always been shared. When the rich are successful, so is everyone else. This new vision isn’t really new at all, Obama’s vision is socialism. He believes in equality or near equality of outcomes. This is a new vision for America, it’s an old vision for Europe which has embraced socialism and abandoned freedom. This is in stark contrast to Romney’s vision, as stated by Paul Ryan that we believe in equality of opportunity not equality of out come. The Romney vision is more in line with what this country has believed for the better part of 200 years. The Obama vision is new for this country, though it is old socialism.

Even in tax policy we see a stark contrast between the two candidates. Obama wants to raise taxes by allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire. This means taxes on dividends will increase to 44%, top rates will hit 39%. He’s already allowed America to have the highest corporate tax in the world at 35%. Romney isn’t even proposing tax cuts. He wants to keep the rates we currently have, which of course is called a cut by unscrupulous Democrats. Any cuts he offers are focused primarily on the middle class but he doesn’t appear to have any upper income tax cuts that aren’t offset by eliminating complicated deductions.

On November 6th we will decide who the next President is going to be. We can either have four more years of Barack Obama and thus have the socialism he promises. We could have Mitt Romney who at worst will pause the race toward socialism and at best will roll some of it back while he embraces smaller government and free markets. We must live with the consequences no matter who we pick. But with Obama, another four years and his new vision will be complete. He will have fundamentally transformed America like he said he would during the 2008 campaign. Do we really want his new vision and his fundamental transformation to take place?

Obama Proposes More Socialist Bailouts

Obama declared yesterday that the auto bailouts were so great that he wants to bailout every other industry as well. Of course in order for this to be a good idea we have to ignore the fact that the Feds lost $14 billion on the auto bailout, perhaps even more.  The Federal government continues to hold on to GM and Chrysler stock that hasn’t lived up to expectations. The government lost money, there’s just no way around that. Yet Obama wants to bail everyone out. In declaring this Obama exposes himself as the fascist socialist he is. He truly believes in a top down economy with Washington dictating the entire economy.

We can cite plenty of examples of government’s inability to run a business. The Post Office lost $5.2 billion in the third quarter and is a perpetual money vacuum. Amtrak consistently loses a fortune providing train services that are unneeded and unused. Amtrak recently announced that over the last decade they lost $833 million on wasted cheeseburgers and pop. Passengers pay $9.50 for a cheeseburger on an Amtrak train, the cost to taxpayers for the burger is $16.15. Of course who could forget Obama wasting billions on wind and solar energy at failed companies like Solyndra. Government’s track record in what should be the private sector is abysmal. Worse, they’re playing with tax money.

What Obama did with GM is exactly what Romney did at Bain with countless corporations. The only difference is that Romney was successful and Obama simply is not. Romney didn’t lose $14 billion in investor money on a corporation that could have been saved at lesser cost via bankruptcy. Obama on the other hand gave the unions a sweetheart deal that cost GM and Chrysler billions that could have been eliminated via a traditional bankruptcy. This is the problem with government, they’re looking out for their constituency not what’s best for the corporation or the economy as a whole. It’s why bailing out industry after industry is a recipe not just for fiscal disaster but economic disaster. Government operates politically, it never operates economically.

Yet this is exactly what Obama wants. He wants all the control in Washington as he picks the winners and losers. In the GM case creditors were the losers while unions were the winners. That decision was made by government, it isn’t something that flowed from law or the free market. No doubt Obama would pick winners and losers across the board if he had the power to bailout the industries of his choosing. Likewise, Republicans might pick different winners and losers if they were given such powers. This sort of system has never worked long term, especially when governments change as quickly as ours.

Obama is a fascist, which is just another form of socialism. Fascism gives government the power to dictate just about everything to private business. So while private businessmen are allowed to keep their businesses and assets, they take their marching orders from the government. There is after all more than one form of socialism, what Obama is advocating is a form of fascism or state capitalism. Call it what you will, it is a form of socialism. Taxpayers cannot afford this sort of socialism. We have a $15 trillion debt and annual deficits upwards of $1 trillion under Obama. Taxpayers lost $14 billion in the auto bailouts, we’ve lost billions in Obama’s failed green energy loans and we’ve been losing billions for years from state run businesses such as the Post Office and Amtrak. We cannot afford more of Obama’s socialist bailouts. On another note, is the best Obama can come up with for a second term economic plan more bailouts?
