Obama’s Absurd Mexican Trip

President Obama is down in Mexico campaigning for immigration reform. The President apparently is interested in reaching future Democrat voters before the Republicans have an opportunity to learn Spanish. That only 56% of the illegals in the United States are Mexicans is no deterrent for this President. The President ought to be concerned about his immigration reform bill. Public support has dropped for comprehensive immigration reform in the wake of the Boston Marathon Bombing. That should hardly be a surprise considering that the bombers were legal immigrants. If we can’t properly keep tabs on people here legally, common sense Americans wonder why the government is going to legalize millions who we don’t know.

Obama’s immigration reform push isn’t even the highlight of his Mexico trip. It’s no secret that Mexico has a massive problem with drug cartel violence. So of course Obama blamed American guns for the gun violence in Mexico. The President never stopped to think for a second that it was his administration that came up with the Fast and Furious program which ran illegal weapons into Mexico resulting in hundreds of Mexican deaths. Surely Obama can recall that his Attorney General, Eric Holder, was found in Contempt of Congress for his refusal to be forthcoming in the Congressional investigation. Yet he said it anyway, likely figuring Mexicans know nothing about our government’s gun running in their country.

American guns are not why Mexican drug cartels are killing each other and turning Mexico into a violent cesspool. That doesn’t mean American law and policy isn’t a contributing factor though. Our drug laws create the demand for illegal drugs which is met, in part, by Mexican drug cartels delivering guns between South American and here. But for our drug laws, the violence in Mexico would be nowhere near what it is right now. You could probably say the same for the cities of our country as well, after all most of the violence in the cites are caused by gangs which fight for drug selling position on the streets.

For any President to go abroad and campaign for domestic laws is cheap and tawdry. It’s even worse when a President attacks his own country and its policies while visiting a foreign nation. We shouldn’t be surprised that Obama is doing this, he’s in his fifth year of attacking the United States abroad. It’s been his goal to knock the US down to size and reduce our power and prestige abroad. He’s been successful, foreigners hate us even more under Obama than they did under Bush. It serves the interests of the United States not in the least for the President to campaign for gun control and immigration reform abroad. Such only serves Obama’s interest in demonizing America and campaigning for future Democrats.

Maybe the Mexicans will listen to Obama because Americans sure aren’t anymore. His approval ratings have tanked and he can’t get anything passed in Congress. Few cared about his most recent press conference and those that did were more interested in his threat to leave and go home, thus channeling Clinton in 1995. With no one listening, the prospects of winning any political battles diminishing by the day and the odds of the Dems winning the House next year looking increasingly dim, no wonder Obama wants to campaign to foreigners. They haven’t tuned him out yet.

Mainstream Media Will Do Anything To Re-Elect Obama

The mainstream press has spent the last four years refusing to cover any negative story about President Obama. Take the Fast and Furious scandal as an example. The mainstream press completely ignored the story while Congress was uncovering the absurdity of the entire program to say nothing of the cover up. It wasn’t until the House decided to hold Eric Holder in contempt that the mainstream press was suddenly interested and then only to attack House Republicans. By not covering Fast and Furious, the mainstream press set the GOP up to look out of control in holding Holder in contempt. To people who only get news from NBC, holding Holder in contempt looked like a rush to accuse even though the investigation was over a year old.

Univision is the first network to actually investigate the Fast and Furious program. They’ve found even more weapons headed to Mexico, to say nothing of the fact that the program extended beyond Arizona. They linked Fast and Furious weapons to the deaths of dozens of Mexican teenagers. Univision is a spanish language channel which apparently gets high ratings in the spanish speaking community. No doubt this report will hurt Obama with Hispanics. So of course the mainstream press wouldn’t want to piggyback on Univision’s story by broadcasting it to the rest of the country. The mainstream outlets remain silent on Fast and Furious.

We have a law in this country which prevents the Federal government from sending money to countries that engage in child military service. President Obama has rightly opposed child soldiers declaring it to be slavery. Unfortunately Obama has provided waivers to just about every country that we know uses child soldiers. Sudan, Libya, Congo all of the countries we know engage in this barbaric practice have received waivers and are getting American tax money or are allowed to purchase American weapons. Where is the media on this issue? Oh wait, that’s right, funding countries that have child soldiers will hurt Obama so the press has buried the story and won’t report it.

In Libya the President has lied to the American people about the cause of Ambassador Stevens death. He spent the better part of two weeks claiming it was because of some silly video no one had ever seen on You Tube. His administration later admitted it was a terrorist attack that had nothing to do with the video but the President blamed the video anyway in his UN speech. Where was the mainstream press? They didn’t show his administration disagreeing with him. They didn’t wonder what the true story was. The mainstream press continued to report the video story as though it were fact. Apparently the mainstream press is uninterested in Libya informing us of an impending attack 3 days in advance. They’re even less interested in figuring out why Stevens was in Benghazi, which is known to be a very dangerous place, without security. Exposing Obama lying to the public weeks before the election might hurt his chances, so the media remains silent.

In our lifetimes we have never seen the press as openly partisan as it is today. Even Democrat Pat Caddell is appalled by the stunts the mainstream press is pulling. What the press is doing is pretty clear. They’re burying bad news for the President to further his re-election chances. They aren’t reporting on scandals within this administration, they sure aren’t doing any investigative reporting. It takes Univision, a spanish language channel, to show the public the harm caused by Fast and Furious. None of the mainstream networks will touch the story. The networks have allowed Obama to lie about the Libya attack without even the slightest hint of questioning his story. Can you imagine them doing this to a Republican? There is little doubt that the media would jump at the chance to investigate Republican scandal, the media would do it with a certain glee in their voices. But not Obama, they’re silent.

These issues only scratch the surface of the problem. We could take about the mainstream media’s absurdly biased polls that over sample Democrats by 9-12 points on a regular basis. We can acknowledge that Obama is winning right now but why must the media go over the top with such absurdly biased polls? Worse, they not only report the polls as fact but CBS declared the race over last week. NBC manipulated video and 911 calls on the Trayvon Martin case, they took sides on what should have been a straight reporting issue. You and I can come up with dozens of other examples. Until the media just admits that they’re liberal, the charge of bias will continue. It’s time to do away with the lie that is an unbiased press. The press is biased, it’s time for everyone to admit what they are.

Obama Obstructs Congress, Expands Executive Privilege

Everyone is obsessing over the Obamacare ruling expected to be issued tomorrow. But there’s another interesting event scheduled to take place tomorrow in Washington. The House of Representatives is going to vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. This of course stems from his refusal to hand over documents in the Fast and Furious scandal. Rep. Darrell Issa recently sent a letter to the President concerning his use of executive privilege. It’s an important letter that properly details the role of executive privilege and why it either doesn’t apply in this case or shows us that there’s something more going on here, perhaps a real large scale scandal or coverup.

Issa notes the history of executive privilege:

Courts have consistently held that the assertion of the constitutionally-based executive privilege — the only privilege that ever can justify the withholding of documents from a congressional committee by the Executive Branch — is only applicable with respect to documents and communications that implicate the confidentiality of the President’s decision-making process, defined as those documents and communications to and from the President and his most senior advisors. Even then, it is a qualified privilege that is overcome by a showing of the committee’s need for the documents. The letters from Messrs. Holder and Cole cited no caselaw to the contrary.

This is important because historically executive privilege only applied to communications made to the President concerning decisions he has to make. In short, the privilege allows the President’s advisers to provide him with advice without fear that an investigation will be held which pins the blame on bad decisions the President makes on them. It frees the President’s advisers to speak freely, that’s the point of the privilege.

With that in mind of course it makes one wonder whether Obama received advice from advisers on Fast and Furious long before he allegedly read all about it in the newspapers. Issa details two possible conclusions one could reach concerning Obama’s executive privilege claim:

Accordingly, your privilege assertion means one of two things. Either you or your most senior advisors were involved in managing Operation Fast & Furious and the fallout from it,including the false February 4, 2011 letter provided by the Attorney General to the Committee,or, you are asserting a Presidential power that you know to be unjustified solely for the purpose of further obstructing a congressional investigation. To date, the White House has steadfastly maintained that it has not had any role in advising the Department with respect to the congressional investigation. The surprising assertion of executive privilege raised the question of whether that is still the case.

So which is it, was Obama involved in Fast and Furious from the beginning and now he’s trying to protect his advisers or is he simply trying to obstruct a Congressional investigation. There is of course a third option, lawless Obama is trying to expand executive privilege to the point where the executive branch does not have to respect or respond at all to the legislative branch despite the latter’s Constitutional authority to oversee the executive.

The claim of privilege is even more bizarre in light of Holder’s offer to Issa made on June 19th. As Issa details:

During the June 19th meeting, the Attorney General stated he wanted to “buy peace.” He indicated a willingness to produce the “fair compilation” of post-February 4th documents. He told me that he would provide the “fair compilation” of documents on three conditions: (1) that I permanently cancel the contempt vote; (2) that I agree the Department was in full compliance with the Committee’s subpoenas, and; (3) that I accept the “fair compilation,” sight unseen.

Issa of course rejected this offer, largely because he didn’t want to declare Holder in compliance without first seeing the documents. The very next day Obama declares executive privilege on the very documents that Holder tried to “buy peace” with the day before. It makes no sense that these documents would be in play for a bargain on the 19th but by the next morning they’re protected by executive privilege. It’s pretty clear that Obama is trying to obstruct the Congressional investigation, at least as far as this small batch of documents is concerned.

Issa cited In re Sealed Case (Espy) 121 F.3d 729 (1997) which states on executive privilege:

The privilege should not extend to staff outside the White House in executive branch agencies. Instead, the privilege should apply only to communications authored or solicited and received by those members of an immediate White House adviser’s staff who have broad and significant responsibility for investigating and formulating the advice to be given the President on the particular matter to which the communications relate.

This is important because the Courts have already decided that communications within, for example, the Justice Department aren’t subject to executive privilege. This includes communications between the Attorney General and his subordinates. In short the only way these documents could be subject to executive privilege is if Obama is directly involved and receiving advice from Holder or other advisers. This goes against everything Obama has said on Fast and Furious so far and it goes against what Holder has testified under oath to concerning this program. In short, either they were lying or they’re trying to both obstruct a Congressional investigation and expand executive privilege.

It’s a safe bet that the documents Holder offered Issa contain no communications with Obama. Holder wouldn’t have made those documents available on June 19th. This the claim of executive privilege fails under the In re Sealed Case (Espy) case. That doesn’t mean there aren’t other documents out there linking Obama earlier than when he and Holder claim the President found out, only that these documents don’t contain such information. What is really going on here is Obama is helping Holder obstruct the Congressional investigation and expand executive privilege. It is a lawless act and one we should generally oppose no matter what we think of Fast and Furious or Issa’s investigation. The last thing we need is more executive power. We should be very reluctant to allow the President to withhold even more documents from Congress and the American people.

Fast and Furious Exposes Obama’s Lack Of Transparency

President Obama claimed he would have the most transparent administration in history. He’s gone so far as to order Federal agencies to release all sorts of documents, even those which could be held back under the FOIA law. That is until Fast and Furious came along. Now the most transparent White House in history is hiding behind executive privilege in order to prevent House Republicans from exercising their Constitutional right to oversee the executive branch. We’re told the House Republicans are being “partisan” as though the White House somehow is not.

At the end of the day several thousand illegal weapons were sent by our government to Mexican drug cartels. Over 200 Mexicans are dead as is one American border patrol agent. To the Obama administration the House Republican’s interest in this is partisan. Never mind that hundreds lay dead thanks to their program. We have serial morons such as Al Sharpton claiming this is all about race, that Holder is being “stopped and frisked” by the House GOP. To believe race plays a factor here would require ignoring the fact that 200+ Mexicans are dead.

Jay Carney insists the evoking of executive privilege is a matter of “principle.” In short, it’s a matter of principle that the American people don’t get to discover why their government was arming Mexican drug cartels. As a matter of principle Obama isn’t going to let us know who knew what and when. Ignore those dead Mexicans and the dead border patrol agent. Ignore those thousands of weapons, largely lost and untracked by our government. It’s a matter of principle that you and I don’t get to know anything about it. After all, the Republicans are just playing partisan games. The Obama administration, Eric Holder and the Fast and Furious gang included, is sugar and spice and everything nice.

Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post believes the Obama administration is trying to bait House Republicans via the recent immigration decision and the executive privilege claim. His theory is that the Obama administration is using these two issues to get the focus off the economy, create a vocal division between himself and the House GOP all so he can run against those dastardly jerks in the House. It’s an interesting theory and perhaps it’s something the Obama administration is actually trying to do.

The problem though is that there has been a near media blackout of Fast and Furious. Other than Fox News and the blogs, the major networks have completely ignored the scandal. NBC Nightly News for example until this week spent less than 30 seconds on Fast and Furious over the last two years. The major papers have all buried this story. With the Obama administration now taking the GOP head on, forcing a contempt vote and claiming executive privilege, now all of a sudden the general public is being made aware of Fast and Furious.

It ought not surprise anyone when more than a few people say “hey wait a minute” when they find out the Justice Department was handing off illegal guns to Mexican drug cartels and there are now 200+ rotting Mexican corpses and one dead border patrol agent. It should surprise people even less when the “hey wait a minute” gang doesn’t like the Obama administration hiding documents. They might think the House Republicans are up to no good but they’ll detest the lack of transparency from Obama. They’ll wonder, why isn’t the President handing these documents over? The notion that the public will view this as a total witch hunt and even view Obama sympathetically is preposterous. People died because of this program, this is beyond a political game.

Obama is taking a huge risk by evoking executive privilege. He’s no longer a transparent President but rather he’s a President who appears to be covering things up. At the end of the day over two hundred people are dead because of Fast and Furious. Congress deserves to know the truth, so do the American people. The family of Brian Terry, the dead border patrol agent, deserves to know the truth. That the Obama administration is trying to hide documents, that they want to prevent the public from knowing who in the administration knew what and when is an outrage. If Obama thinks going to war with the House over these documents is a good idea politically he’s sadly mistaken. Now everyone is paying attention to Fast and Furious and no one is going to be happy that the administration is stonewalling the investigation.

Obama Claims Executive Privilege On Fast And Furious

In a curious move, President Obama is now claiming executive privilege concerning the Fast and Furious program. You’ll recall that Fast and Furious saw the government hand guns over to Mexican drug cartels. The government was going to track the guns but in the end several hundred Mexicans are dead and one border patrol agent is dead. Attorney General Eric Holder is facing a contempt of Congress vote today because he refuses to hand over documents in this case. Throughout Holder has been less than forthcoming, claiming he didn’t know about Fast and Furious when documents show he did. Now comes this curious executive privilege claim.

Generally speaking executive privilege is limited to national security concerns. In the 90′s Bill Clinton tried to claim executive privilege to prevent his aides from being deposed in civil matters and he lost. That Obama is trying to claim executive privilege here is especially odd since supposedly he’s never seen the documents the House is after. Could Obama be implicating himself in Fast and Furious? Did the President know about this program all along? Perhaps. More likely though Obama is simply trying to protect Eric Holder and demonize Republicans at the same time.

The House has a legitimate oversight claim in the Fast and Furious case. They have a right to investigate the attorney general and his conduct for which the House has appropriated money. Holder continues to refuse to provide the Congress with documents, none of which are truly privileged. There is no national security concern here. While Fast and Furious involves a foreign country, that country was not involved in the program. Obama knows nothing about the case supposedly, thus there is no legitimate claim of executive privilege. In 2007 then Sen. Obama criticized the Bush administration for hiding behind executive privilege. Now he’s doing the same thing in an even less legitimate case.

Rep. Issa and his committee should vote today to hold Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failing to provide documents per the committee’s subpoena. The full Congress should also vote to hold Holder in contempt. Suit must be filed against the Obama administration concerning its claim of executive privilege. Executive privilege is not something found within the Constitution. If it exists at all, it’s perhaps limited to discussions the President has with his political staff and in national security cases. Where it does not and should not apply is to cabinet members who don’t want to implicate themselves in a botched or corrupt program. It seems Obama has given us a good case where the Court can further limit the notion of executive privilege.

Where does this leave us going forward? Politically this isn’t going to help Obama at all. Despite a favorable press, many people are going to look at Fast and Furious and wonder why Holder won’t turn over documents. They’ll further wonder why Obama is exerting executive privilege. They’ll wonder what they’re hiding, what they’re covering up. Politically that looks really bad. But of course they must be calculating this risk. Whatever is in those documents must be worse than looking like they’re trying to cover something up. Let the speculation begin on what’s in those documents. Whatever is in there must implicate Holder. It’s open speculation season now.

Fast And Furious Documents Show Eric Holder Lied

The Fast and Furious scandal has shown Attorney General Eric Holder to be a liar. He’s consistently claimed that he and senior staff at the Justice Department didn’t know about the program until just before news broke about it. New documents show this simply isn’t the case. Senior staff at the Justice Department approved wire taps nearly a year before the first Congressional hearings, well before news of Fast and Furious broke. Thus Eric Holder lied at his press conferences and during his testimony before the House. Even if we give Holder the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t know senior staff approved these wire taps, Holder in the least has shown himself utterly incompetent.

Fast and Furious allowed illegal weapons to get into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. In theory the Feds were trying to figure out the cartel supply lines via these guns. That never happened. Instead one border patrol officer was murdered and over two hundred Mexicans have been murdered. The Federal government never informed Mexico of what they were doing. Some on the right believe Fast and Furious was an attempt to push for more gun control as the Justice Department knew these guns would be used in any number of murders in the southwest and in Mexico.

Holder has now taken to blaming Bush for Fast and Furious. It is true that the Bush administration had three programs that involved similar plans as Fast and Furious. However there are two important differences. The Bush administration plans were on a small scale and the Bush Justice Department worked with Mexico. In short, the Bush administration tried to tag team the cartels with the Mexican authorities. The Obama administration never told Mexico about Fast and Furious and thus never coordinated efforts with them. A major flaw when you know full well the guns are going to Mexico. How this is Bush’s fault is anyone’s guess but that seems to be the standard response to everything from the Obama administration these days.

We could debate the merits of any of these programs considering that it requires putting guns in the hands of brutal Mexican drug cartels. To not work with Mexico is simply foolish. How in the world did Holder and the Obama Justice Department think they were going to track guns once they were outside of US jurisdiction? This is what fuels speculation that Holder was creating conditions which would allow him to argue for stricter gun control laws. It’s no secret that Mexican drug cartels are a major source of violence. Holder knows that if American guns are being used for violence in Mexico, Obama would have an easier time arguing for stricter gun control laws. That the Obama administration sets up a false situation in order to get the laws simply doesn’t matter to these people. Never forget, these people are following Saul Alinsky. The ends justify the means.

Holder got caught and he’s been back tracking ever since. If he hasn’t outright lied to Congress, he’s at least shown his incompetence at running the Justice Department. He’s likely a liar. There is little doubt that Holder and other higher ups would have had knowledge about a plan to flood thousands of guns into a foreign country so that we could track them. If Holder didn’t know about Fast and Furious, then he’s simply incompetent. But given the magnitude and the significance of this program, there’s no doubt he knew. As such, he has lied to Congress. Rather than admitting to that, he’s blaming Bush.

Holder Gets Testy At Fast and Furious Hearing

Eric Holder was back at the Capitol yesterday to testify about Fast and Furious. You’ll recall that the ATF sold guns to Mexican drug cartels and/or arranged for Mexican drug cartels to get guns illegally. In theory the ATF was going to track the guns thousands of guns sent over the border. In reality they didn’t and 200+ Mexicans have been murdered with those guns as well as one American border patrol agent. Some on the right have theorized that the Justice Department wanted to use the violence associated with these guns to push for further gun control.

The Attorney General claimed last year to not know about Fast and Furious until just before his hearing before Congress. Since then memos show Holder knew months and perhaps a year before his testimony. Today Holder claims there hasn’t been a cover up, but that’s hard to believe considering his inconsistent testimony.

Holder has spent quite a bit of time in his career testifying that he doesn’t know or doesn’t recall. He’s done that quite a bit during the Fast and Furious investigation. It’s a little disturbing in light of the fact that it’s the Attorney General’s job to know about this sort of an operation. Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) pointed this out and apparently annoyed the Attorney General who said “maybe this is how you do things in Idaho or wherever you’re from.”

Holder’s exchange with Rep. Labrador showed us two things. First, it showed us the racial outlook of Eric Holder. To him it is unthinkable that the white people of Idaho would elect someone with brown skin and/or it’s unthinkable that someone with brown skin would be a Republican. (Labrador is Puerto Rican) This is actual subtle racism, not the sort of subtle racism the left always accuses conservatives of for no other reason than we’re conservative.

But more importantly this exchange as well as others during the hearing show us what Holder really thinks of Fast and Furious. He views this not as a massive disaster that’s resulted in the deaths of hundreds but rather he views this as a political issue. In other words, those dastardly Republicans are up to political games and therefore what happened during Fast and Furious is irrelevant. Again, more than 200 people died with guns illegally handed over to Mexican drug cartels, all without the knowledge of the Mexican government. This isn’t a mere political issue, this is a serious case that deserves a serious investigation.

Of course the mainstream press has largely ignored this issue. Can you imagine what the press would do if 200+ Mexicans and a border patrol agent were killed because John Ashcroft’s ATF handed off guns to drug cartels in Mexico without that government’s knowledge? It would be a massive scandal that is would result in Ashcroft’s resignation. It would have been on the nightly news shows every evening and it would have been front page news in every newspaper. Each Congressional hearing would be covered in depth by the mainstream press. If this isn’t an example of media bias, I don’t know what is.

It is very clear that Holder and company engaged in a massive coverup of Fast and Furious. We can debate what the purpose of this program was but it’s very clear that once it started going bad the Attorney General was involved in a cover up. In short, Holder lied when he told Congress he had just recently learned of Fast and Furious. His behavior at yesterday’s hearing was nothing short of outrageous. Holder displayed his racism and he displayed a complete contempt for anyone who would dare investigate or criticize him. Sadly, this is the story of the Obama administration.

ATF Tried To Use Fast and Furious To Push Gun Control

As previously speculated, the ATF was planning to use the gun sales made via Fast and Furious to push for more gun control legislation. Sharyl Attkisson of CBS News has uncovered the smoking gun, which in this case isn’t far from literal. You’ll recall that the ATF either directly purchased guns that were then handed over to Mexican drug cartel agents or instructed gun stores to sell guns to suspected Mexican drug cartel agents, telling the stores that the ATF was tracking the people who were sold guns. In the end thousands of guns got into the hands of criminals and it has resulted in hundreds of deaths in Mexico and the death of a border patrol agent here in the United States.

There seems to have been multiple reasons for Fast and Furious. Keep in mind, this program is an Obama administration creation. The Bush administration had a similar operation but it was done with the knowledge and help of the Mexican government. Fast and Furious kept the Mexicans out of the loop while Obama’s ATF flooded northern Mexico with thousands of weapons. The administration appears to be favoring particular drug cartels, perhaps for political reasons. But while the administration may have an interest in which Mexican drug cartels control, the big fish is pushing for more gun control legislation.

The left has forever tried to deny Americans their second amendment right to keep and bear arms. Whether it’s local governments trying to ban handguns or the Federal government trying to restrict gun ownership with waiting periods, the left wants to deny us our second amendment rights. What makes Fast and Furious so outrageous is that the ATF is setting up the conditions by which it can then turn around and demand more gun control.

Keep in mind it’s the ATF instructing gun store owners to sell weapons to Mexican drug cartel agents, telling the store owners that the guns are being tracked. The ATF is then going to turn around and claim that we need more gun control because of all the illegal weapons being sent over the border. Yet it’s the ATF who either purchased the guns themselves or instructed gun stores to sell the guns. It’s simply outrageous that a Federal agency is trying to pull such a stunt in order to deny us our second amendment rights.

Meanwhile in Washington Attorney General Eric Holder pretends like he didn’t know anything. We’re supposed to believe that the ATF hatched an elaborate scheme to push for gun control legislation and the Attorney General had no idea what was going on. It’s simply not believable. Especially so in light of the numerous memos sent to Holder during the course of Fast and Furious. Holder knew exactly what was going on. The question is whether he told Obama.

This administration will stop at nothing to deny Americans our rights. They’re willing to sell guns to criminals and then turn around and claim we need more gun control to stop the sale of guns to criminals. We must never forget that this administration follows the Saul Alinsky motto ‘the ends justify the means.’ It doesn’t matter to Obama how we get gun control legislation so long as we get it. It doesn’t matter to him how we get Obamacare so long as we get it. It doesn’t matter to him whether Solyndra has a poor business model so long as billions are spent on green energy. The list goes on and on.

Eric Holder should resign his office. He knew what was going on within the ATF. He knew they were allowing guns to get into the hands of Mexican drug cartel agents. He knew that one of their goals was to use the fact that guns got into the hands of drug cartels as a reason to push for gun control legislation. Eric Holder knew these guns were getting into the hands of dangerous drug lords yet he did nothing to stop it. He did nothing because at the end of the day, he supports more gun control legislation and if Fast and Furious led to more gun control, what’s a couple hundred dead Mexicans and a dead border patrol agent to Eric Holder?

Eric Holder Uses Fast and Furious To Demand New Gun Control Laws

The Fast and Furious scandal has damaged the Obama administration and the Attorney General’s office. You’ll recall that the scandal surrounds the ATF both purchasing guns and then sending them to Mexico and the ATF allowing known drug cartel members to purchase guns in Arizona to take to Mexico. The ATF was allegedly tracking these guns to see if they came back into the US. The result of all these illegal gun purchases is 200+ dead Mexicans and at least one dead American. The program started during the Bush administration but with the knowledge and cooperation of Mexico. The program continued under Obama but without Mexican knowledge or cooperation.

The ATF and Attorney General Eric Holder had two reasons to go forward with this operation. First, the administration was picking sides in Mexico’s drug cartel civil war. Essentially the administration is trying to prevent any one cartel from obtaining to much power. Second, the administration wanted to use this program to call for tougher gun control legislation. The thinking is that these guns, all bought illegally but with the knowledge of the ATF, would go to Mexico and then return to the United States wherein they would be used to commit violent crime. Since the crimes would be committed with illegally purchased guns the administration would then use this fact to push for tougher gun control legislation.

It all fell apart for Obama and Holder when the public figured out that the government was directly responsible for the illegal gun purchases. Make no mistake, the administration when making calls for tougher gun control laws would have hidden that fact. Holder is set to testify today before the a House committee on the matter wherein he’s going to call for tougher gun control legislation. Apparently he’s set to argue that if there were tougher gun laws the ATF wouldn’t be able to illegally buy guns for Mexican drug lords or allow those same drug lords to purchase guns illegally themselves. If the ATF doesn’t follow current gun laws, why would anyone believe they would follow new gun laws?

In the end Obama, Holder and the far left want to strip Americans of their right to keep and bear arms. They’ll use nonsense like Fast and Furious as evidence that guns are dangerous and then they’ll call for more laws to keep Americans from purchasing them. The problem though isn’t guns. After all, guns don’t kill people. People kill people.

In the case of Mexican drug cartels, the problem isn’t guns that are illegally moving from the US to Mexico and back. The problem is two fold. First, there isn’t a border fence and thus it’s relatively easy for dangerous people to enter the United States with weapons. Second, our drug laws have created this mess and it’s perhaps time to revisit them. We’re essentially watching the modern version of Al Capone battling other rum runners except the players are Mexican rather than American and they’re running drugs rather than booze.

Fast and Furious was a direct assault on Americans right to keep and bear arms. It was intended as such from the time Holder became Attorney General. That Holder is going to continue to push for gun control despite his plan blowing up shows his brazen arrogance. It also shows his willingness to stick to a leftist agenda despite the fact that the facts are exposed. Their goal is clear, they want strict gun control legislation and they’ll do anything to get it up to and including setting the stage for murder.

White House Fails To Prep For Scandal Explanations

It’s been an interesting week for scandal in the Obama administration. The Fast and Furious scandal has shown that Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the ATF plot nearly a year prior to the time he told Congress he knew about it. The CBS reporter who broke the story was yelled at by a DOJ official and screamed and cursed at by a White House official. Meanwhile Solyndra was nearly given an additional $400 million prior to their bankruptcy and Energy Department emails suggest they were concerned about the cozy relationship between major Obama campaign donors and the loan. Our interest today is in the administration’s reaction to these scandals.

On Wednesday Jay Carney was finally asked about Fast and Furious, the first time the subject has been brought up in his daily press briefings in over three months. He had no answer, only saying that Obama fully supported Eric Holder. Yesterday at the President’s “Pass This Bill” campaign presser from the White House, Obama said exactly the same thing. He offered no opinion on Fast and Furious, he said nothing about Eric Holder.

Jay Carney’s response was ridiculous. He had to have known that Jake Tapper was going to ask him about Fast and Furious, yet he looked surprised and he didn’t have a real answer. He didn’t even punt by saying nothing more than ‘go ask the Department of Justice.” Carney is Obama’s spokesman and didn’t have an answer. Then yesterday Obama says the same thing. He had to have known he was going to be asked about Fast and Furious, yet he had no answer. That suggests that the Obama administration doesn’t care at all about Fast and Furious, they likely don’t think it’s a problem.

But it is a problem. The ATF sold guns to or otherwise allowed guns to get into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. The result is there is at least one American dead and over 200 Mexicans dead. The Attorney General has been given at least 5 memos on this topic since July of 2010, yet he told Congress last May he had only known about Fast and Furious for a couple weeks. Even if we believe Holder, meaning we believe he didn’t read the memos but had underlings read them for him, doesn’t that suggest that the Justice Department is in chaos? It’s one thing to have underlings read memos for the Attorney General, he surely gets a lot of memos. But wouldn’t you think that one of the underlings would have raised a red flag and said something like, hey wait a minute we shouldn’t be giving guns to Mexican drug cartels? One would think that someone would alert Mr. Holder, yet they didn’t.

The Justice Department is clearly in chaos. Yet the President doesn’t seem to care. He doesn’t care that that an American is dead and 200 Mexicans are dead thanks to these guns that were illegally purchased by drug lords with the ATF’s knowledge or sold by the ATF to said drug lords. People are dead and the President could care less. He can’t even bother to say anything more than he supports Eric Holder in a press conference. He’s either not being prepped properly or he truly doesn’t care about the scandal. Either way, it suggests the administration has a major problem.

Moving on to Solyndra, Obama has declared throughout the week that he thought the company was a “good bet.” Government as venture capitalist is a terrible idea. It’s one thing for a venture capitalist to invest his own money in risky companies. It’s another thing for the government to invest tax money into a politically connected company that everyone knows is on shaky financial ground. It’s not the job of the government to bet tax money on businesses, politically connected or otherwise.

The President’s flippant remarks once again suggest he doesn’t care about the Solyndra scandal. It’s clear he believes government should play venture capitalist with tax money. That’s it’s own problem. But he doesn’t care at all about the fact that he’s being accused of giving preferential treatment to a major campaign donor. It’s not clear whether he doesn’t get that he’s being accused of anything shady or if he simply thinks he’s above it all. Either way he’s projecting arrogance, he appears to not care that half a billion tax dollars were wasted on Solyndra, not to mention millions more on other connected green companies.

One of Obama’s biggest problems since becoming President is the inability of his administration to project a clear message and the inability of his administration to respond to crisis. Obama is often not properly prepped for press conferences. Sure, he has his talking points down for the major issues  he’s pushing. However he clearly wasn’t prepped to talk about Fast and Furious yesterday even though everyone knew he would be asked about it. The alternative is that he just doesn’t care, which is even worse. Go back to 2009 when he said the cop acted “stupidly” in an arrest of a liberal professor friend of Obama’s. He clearly wasn’t prepped about the subject, even though everyone knew he would be asked about the arrest.

It’s not clear why Obama isn’t prepped properly. Perhaps he doesn’t take prepping for pressers seriously, maybe he’s arrogant enough to believe he can handle it all on his own or maybe he’s to lazy to seriously engage when being prepped. Or perhaps his underlings are afraid to confront him with bad news and thus afraid to prep him to discuss bad news. Either way, it’s clear the administration isn’t handling Fast and Furious or Solyndra very well. They don’t seem to grasp how serious the allegations are and they don’t seem to grasp how poor they look to the American people right now. Obama’s numbers are down this week again, these two issues are why.
