Obama’s Mediocre Speech; Granholm’s Wacko Performance

The Democrats worst fears came true last night. Bill Clinton gave a better speech than Barack Obama. You knew this was going to happen. Bubba hates Obama and did everything in his power to outshine him. Meanwhile Obama appears tired and worn out. His soaring rhetoric is no longer soaring. Crowd reaction to him isn’t what it was 4 years ago. Interestingly former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm may have stolen the night with her bizarre speech. In Granholm we can see everything that is wrong with Obama’s policies and perhaps what is right in Romney’s. By stealing the show, Granholm unintentionally brought attention to her failed job as Governor in Michigan.

Obama’s speech is being panned as pedestrian and overconfident from the left. Obama offered few if any specifics about his plans for a second term. He spent most of his time blaming Bush, without actually naming him. We’ve heard it all before from this President, at what point does he think the public will stop listening? The problem is that Obama thinks the public is listening but are being manipulated by dastardly Republicans and their lies. He’s really discounting the public’s ability to see that we have a $16 trillion debt, up over $5 trillion since Obama took office. He acts as though we can’t see the 23 million unemployed or the lack of new jobs, only a net gain of 300,000 since Obama took office. The public has noticed that this is the slowest economic recovery since WWII. The public isn’t stupid, but Obama thinks we are.

Which brings us back to Jennifer Granholm. She led Michigan to a one state recession when she was Governor. She increased taxes, refused to revamp Michigan’s oppressive business tax and spent like a drunken sailor until Michigan’s Constitution (which requires a balanced budget) forced her to make some paltry cuts. Once out of the way, Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has led a recovery by revamping the business tax and cutting spending. Michigan’s economy is on the upswing, our manufacturing base has the tools it needs to grow.

The parallel between Granholm and Snyder and Obama and Romney is pretty clear. Neither Snyder or Romney is perfect, I have a particular dislike for Rick Snyder. But their policies will bring about a real economic recovery. They’ll fix the mess that the Democrats have made. By acting like a wild Canadian (Granholm was born in Canada) Granholm has brought upon herself and Obama a very negative comparison. Democrats claim to fix messes but in reality they make them worse. It’s up to tough economy minded Republicans to really clean up the mess.

The Democratic Convention won’t bring about any serious bump for Obama. Let’s face it, no one is watching this stuff anymore. Sure, we political junkies tune in and so do hardcore members of whichever party is holding its convention. But polling shows that less than 20% of independent voters tune in. With so few tuning in, there won’t be any significant polling changes. The question is whether the public will tune into the debates, which you have to think many will. The debates are the next big opportunity for the candidates to increase their odds of winning. How those play out is anyone’s guess. But if Obama performs at the debates like he did last night, he leaves a very wide window open for Romney.

It Takes A Village To Boo God, Take Fake Indians and Bill Clinton Seriously

The Democrats got to boo God yesterday as well as hear speeches from a serial whore who wants taxpayers to pay for her consequences free sex, a fake Indian and a serial philanderer who happens to be an ex-President. Quite a night for the hope and change crowd don’t you think? The theme of the night seemed to be ‘we’re all in this together’ or perhaps in reality ‘you pay for it.’ Just looking at the lineup of speakers, is there any one of them who on his face appears to be someone who could convince people that Obama deserves a second term?

The Democrats booed God yesterday. The Democrat platform took out a section concerning God as well as a section on Jerusalem as capital of Israel. Those sections had been in the Dem platform for quite some time. Once the GOP and Jewish Democrats got wind of it, they went wild. The result? Even though Obama approved the initial platform we’re told he insisted on putting the God and Jerusalem sections back in the platform. This required a vote of the delegates and it had to pass by a 2/3 majority. By voice vote at best it appeared 50/50, it of course passed. The result? Booing and hissing on the convention floor. Apparently God is disfavored by the rank and file.

Fauxcahontas, aka Massachusetts Senate candidate and the Democrats resident fake Indian Elizabeth Warren, once again doubled down on Obama’s ‘you didn’t build that’ line.  She declared that ‘we built it together.’ Was she talking about roads or was she spouting the typical leftist nonsense that capitalists didn’t build anything, their workers did. Obama and Warren expose themselves as people who were at least schooled in Marxist ideology when they drop lines like ‘you didn’t build that.’ In their minds, workers built everything and capitalists are lazy exploiters. They don’t understand capitalism, they don’t really care to. That Fauxcahontas got a prime slot at the Convention shows how much Obama really believes in this line of thinking.

Bill Clinton was Bill Clinton. He gave the sort of speech one would expect him to give. He made vague arguments in favor of Obama and spent a lot of time talking about himself. He was up against NFL Football, so no one is even going to see his speech even if you think it was masterful. It says a lot about Obama that he needs Bill Clinton to save him. From all accounts these two really don’t like each other. Clinton is doing this for Hillary, he’s securing her spot as the next nominee. But if Obama didn’t need Clinton he wouldn’t go anywhere near him. That Clinton is the keynote speaker and nominated Obama is itself a sign of desperation from the current President.

For all the positive things Clinton said about Obama last night, he cannot shake what he’s said in the past. Obama would have been getting Clinton’s bags and coffee for him just a few years ago, so Bubba said. Romney is qualified to be President, so Bubba has said. Over the last few years Clinton has had a number of attacks on Obama. These guys don’t care for each other and are using one another to further their own ends. Obama needs Clinton’s base, Clinton used the stage last night to campaign for Hillary 2016. The result is a good speech, likely better than Obama’s tonight. But it didn’t earn Obama any votes. It didn’t make a strong case for Obama’s re-election.

The Democrat Convention has been all about abortion, tax funded sex, socialism and booing God. There hasn’t been a clear message, outside of the Democrats fanatical and extreme support for abortion. The GOP Convention had very clear themes, what exactly is the clear theme of the Democrat Convention? We have an economic disaster on our hands and a major debt problem. The Democrats can’t make themes out of these issues because they have no credibility. Clinton danced around the debt issue and played fast and loose with economic statistics. He can’t even make a credible argument for Obama’s handling of the economy. The lack of clarity, the lack of Convention themes on the economy will ultimately be the downfall of this Convention and perhaps this President.

UPDATE: A little fact checking for Clinton’s speech.

Obama Strategy: Fear, Excuses, Government Worship and Abortion

The Obama acceptance speech will not take place at 75,000 seat Bank of America field in Charlotte tomorrow. Instead it will be moved indoors at the regular Dem Convention site. Why? According to the Democrats they’re sufficiently concerned about a 20% chance of rain during the speech. That seems a little odd considering that during the summer the weatherman always says there’s a 20% chance of rain. It’s a shame the Democrats won’t be honest about why they’re moving the speech indoors. There’s an 80% chance they can’t fill a football stadium for Obama’s speech, that’s why they moved it. Nothing could be worse for them than the image of an empty upper deck during the big O’s speech.

These Democrats sure like abortion don’t they? For all the talk about how extreme the GOP platform is concerning abortion, there hasn’t been a peep from the media about how extreme the Democrats platform is on abortion. The Democrats not only want taxpayer funded abortion, they want all abortions to be legal. That includes second and third trimester abortions and partial birth abortion. Around 84% of the country opposes third trimester abortions, yet the Democrats are praised as abortion heros by the media. The extreme position on abortion is to be found in the Democrat Party, not in the GOP.

Unable to talk about Obama’s record, the Democrats have turned their convention into an abortionfest. Yesterday was one radical abortion fanatic after another. The Democrats are quite serious about their war on women, it’s their only pathway to victory. It isn’t working of course. Around half of women oppose abortion these days, so parading around a bunch of baby killing liberals isn’t going to get women on the Obama bandwagon. The Democrats are literally stuck in the 60′s on this issue. A recent Washington Post poll showed Obama’s favorability among women dropping to all time lows. The war on women isn’t going to bring them back into the Obama camp, especially when half the women are against abortion.

The Democrats took God out of their platform. Obviously conservatives are up in arms over this. The Democrats have replaced God with government. It’s easy to get outraged over this but it isn’t worth our outrage. It’s worth our pity. The Democrats have become the first major party to admit that they care nothing for God, they’re the first to admit they worship government. It’s a sad day, if not terribly surprising. The Democrats have become a party for atheists and practical atheists who haven’t yet left the Christian faith. They worship government, these days they’re right up front about it.

The Democrat Convention so far has been full of baseless attacks on Mitt Romney, claims that Obama’s job is incomplete and in need of a second term, government worship and abortion. Taking a step back, will any of this play to voters outside the Democrat base? Is it even meant to? The Democrats strategy is pretty clear at this point. They believe the pathway to victory isn’t through independent voters but through a massive turnout of the Democrat base. This is a massive gamble because polls consistently show less enthusiasm on the part of Democrats. Obama must believe he can scare the base into voting on election day. One wonders though if the inability to fill a football stadium might be a sign of what’s to come in November.

UPDATE: Dem party big wigs rammed God into the platform this afternoon, much to the chagrin of booing delegates.

An Incomplete Grade For A Failing President

Michelle Obama tried to make the case that her husband’s job isn’t finished yet and that he needs another four years to finish it. This seems to be one of the themes of the Democrat Convention. President Obama the other day was asked what grade he would give himself for his first term. He said he gave himself an incomplete, apparently the First Lady ran with that. She isn’t the only one, deputy Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said an incomplete is a “totally awesome” grade. These people really believe that Obama’s grade is an incomplete and worse they think his grade is ‘totally awesome.’

The truth of course is anything but. Obama seems to believe he’s lowered college tuition during his term, that would be news to college students. Unemployment is up during Obama’s term, as is the national debt. The national debt in fact is up over $5.3 trillion, it topped $16 trillion yesterday. Median income dropped from $54,000 to $50,000 during Obama’s term. Yet Obama thinks he earned an incomplete for one term in office. It is almost shocking how arrogant and out of touch such a grade is. We have 46.7 million people on food stamps, Obama thinks this earns an incomplete. Obama has been giving the same stump speech for four years, the country is in a worse position now then when he took office and he has the unmitigated audacity to say he earned an incomplete.

Over the weekend David Axlerod and several other Democrats couldn’t answer the question ‘are people better off than they were four years ago?’ The obvious answer is no and these guys all know it. They looked like complete fools dancing around the issue. This is an important question, in fact it’s an important moment in the campaign. If the Democrats cannot argue that we’re better off than we were four years ago, how exactly can they argue for another four years of Obama? Why wouldn’t people want to make a change after four years of massive debt, higher taxes, less freedom, more unemployment and more food stamps? If the Democrats cannot argue why Obama should be elected, their only pathway to victory is to declare Mitt Romney unsuitable for the White House. It seems they’ve gone that route over the summer, it’s their only way to win.

If we aren’t better off than we were four years ago and David Axlerod and the Democrats more or less admit it, how then can Obama earn a ‘totally awesome’  incomplete? What fantasy land must he live in to believe that he’s earned an incomplete. Can you imagine the press letting a Republican off the hook with self grading like Obama’s? Can you imagine the press reaction to an entire convention built around a grade of incomplete? Yet that’s exactly what we have at the Democrat Convention. The First Lady made the case last night that her husband deserves an incomplete and thus four years to complete his transformation of America.

It is of course absurd for Obama to suggest he’s earned an incomplete grade after four years in office. Unemployment is up, prices are up, the economy is stagnant, his economic policies have failed and he has no new ideas for his second term. His own campaign can’t say yes when asked if the country is better off than it was four years ago.

His first term is almost complete, it deserves an actual grade. Obama can’t give himself a F, D or C and expect to get re-elected. He also knows he’ll get attacked in the extreme if he gives himself an A and slightly less extreme if he gives himself a B. He doesn’t want another ‘you didn’t build that’ moment so he gave himself an incomplete. It feels planned in light of the First Lady’s speech, Obama’s team must have anticipated a grading question and decided to run with an incomplete. The question for voters though is do we want a man who thinks the last four years earn an incomplete to be allowed to complete a grade with another four years? In short, if the grade in four years is a D or F, do we really want to allow Obama to complete the job?

Taxpayers Waste $136 Million On Conventions

The madness in Charlotte begins tonight. For the sake of the Democrats I hope it’s air conditioned in the convention hall. If it isn’t, it might be to hot for Joe Biden to tell everyone about Obama’s great accomplishments. Thursday is Obama’s big speech at the Carolina Panthers stadium, Bank of America Field. Apparently the Democrats are going to bus in college students, black church members and union thugs from all over the Carolina’s in order to fill the stadium. They’re apparently nervous that Obama can’t pack a stadium anymore. I wonder how much cash and eats they’ll offer people.

Did you know that the Federal government is spending $136 million on the Republican and Democrat Conventions? That figure doesn’t even include secret service protection for the President, Vice President, the two GOP nominees or any of the members of Congress who receive protection. The money is handed over to both parties to do with as they please. Allegedly half the money is spent on security, not including the secret service protection of course. Still, that’s an awful lot of tax money to waste on these arcane political conventions. Let’s be perfectly honest, these conventions aren’t about nominating a President anymore. They’re a week long propaganda tool.

Mitt Romney received a modest bump in the Rasmussen poll, which as of Monday had him up 4. None of the other polls, most of which are registered voter polls as opposed to Rasmussen’s likely voter polls, showed any bump for Romney. What does this tell us? First it tells us that many registered voters didn’t pay attention to the Republican Convention last week. That isn’t surprising considering viewership was down by 8 million Thursday night. What it does suggest though is that likely voters did pay attention and they liked what Romney had to offer. Whether those people flip to Obama after his convention remains to be seen.

Obama isn’t going to pull more viewers than Mitt Romney. Democrats will tune in all three nights and undecided likely voters might tune in on Thursday. No one will watch on Wednesday when the opening NFL football game takes place between the Giants and Cowboys. Only around 20% of undecided voters will watch any portion of either convention, which largely makes these events irrelevant. As important as political junkies think conventions are when it comes down to the election itself they just aren’t that important anymore. We live in a different era. People might tune in to a real nominating convention where we don’t know who the nominee will be. But ordinary Americans aren’t going to tune in for a cynical week long propaganda party.

So while the GOP Convention was largely a success and the Democrats convention will likely be a disaster, it won’t matter very much come November. Our society has changed, we don’t care about political conventions anymore. The conventions themselves don’t matter. So that begs the question why we’re spending $136 million in tax money to fund these ridiculous propaganda events. If the parties want to pay for these events themselves, that’s their business. But taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook to fund these largely irrelevant parties.

Democrats Project Their Old Fashioned Policies On GOP

The Democrats are on the rampage against the GOP Convention. If they weren’t so serious it would actually be comical. Obama declared that the Convention was from the black and white television era. LA Mayor Antonio Villaraogosa declared the GOP was a party for 1812. Couple that with the absurd attacks on Paul Ryan allegedly fibbing about  how many Marathon’s he’s run and there you have the Obama campaign’s case for re-election. No, seriously, their argument is that the Republicans are old fashioned and Paul Ryan is a liar about Marathon’s. The Democrats clearly have no better case to make.

There are more Hispanic Republicans in office than Hispanic Democrats. Most are young with a bright future. The claim that the GOP is old fashioned is absurd on its face. But it’s also sort of incredible coming from a Democrat Party that is going to have Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton headline. Talk about old fashioned, Jimmy Carter is a failed relic of the past and Bill Clinton hasn’t been relevant in over a decade. In fact, Clinton has ulterior motives and will likely outshine Obama, thus making his speech a double edged sword for the President. For Obama though, his whole campaign slogan is wrapped in the term “forward” yet his Convention is looking backward. His solution? Accuse the Republicans of being old fashioned so that no one will notice that it’s the Democrats who are really old fashioned.

Obama has nothing to run on. We have a national debt that is set to top $16 trillion during his convention. It’s increased over $5 trillion since he took office and has been above $1 trillion each year of his term. The economic recovery is the slowest in history. Consumer confidence is down, unemployment is stagnate and inflation is on the rise. Obamacare and the taxes associated with are terribly unpopular as is the failed Obama stimulus. People aren’t better off than they were four years ago, Democrats admit it and David Axlerod essentially admitted as such by dodging questions about it.

The Democrat Convention ought to be a riot, literally if Occupy Charlotte has its way. Of the major speakers, virtually none are young rising stars within their party. Few are elected statewide. Obama has a bunch of mayor’s speaking like Corey Booker. He has a bunch of Naral and Planned Parenthood activists speaking like 30 year old perpetual student and professional whiner Sandra Fluke. Of course Nancy Pelosi and the crew will be speaking, which is a blast from the past for most people. In short, the same old boring, tired speakers that once could have seen at a Democrat Convention in 1996 or 2000. But of course those dastardly Republicans are so old fashioned.

Romney did himself a lot of favors last week with the GOP Convention. It almost couldn’t have turned out any better for him. In looking at the upcoming Democrat Convention, it’s hard to imagine it will be as exciting as it was four years ago. The speaker list is dreadful. Obama’s policies haven’t worked, most of the Democrats at this point realize what a precarious election position they’re in. Well, everyone but campaign Obama which insists they’re in the lead at landslide levels. Obama doesn’t seem to have a plan for a second term, so everyone will be looking for him to outline one on Thursday. But at this point, asking for a second term to finish the job when no one thinks we’re better off after four years of Obama policies isn’t going to work. Unfortunately for Obama, he has no other choice.

Obama’s War On Women

It appears that the Democrats want to turn their Convention into a giant GOP war on women whine fest. We really shouldn’t blame them, if the Republicans were in their position we would be trying to run from the economy as well. These people really believe they’re going to swing the election on the issue of abortion. Apparently Todd Akin, until this week an obscure no one ever heard of him outside of Missouri Congressman, is going to be their center focus. As though Akin speaks for the entire GOP. Meanwhile the Democrats are allowing Bill Clinton, the harasser of Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broaderick, Gennifer Flowers and Paula Jones, to introduce Obama. But it’s the Republicans who hate women!

Apparently the GOP hates women. Sen. Barbara Boxer says we don’t like our mothers or our first wives. Apparently we were supposed to take Boxer’s comments seriously. We should rejoice though that the Democrats are going to try to turn this campaign into a battle over abortion. Nothing could be better for the Republicans for any number of reasons. Let’s begin with Obama’s radical position on abortion. He doesn’t believe in any restrictions whatsoever on abortion. In the Illinois state senate he voted to allow doctors to kill babies born alive via botched abortions. Meanwhile the Republicans have nominated a johnny come lately to the pro-life side, someone who hasn’t made any waves on the issue. Go ahead, make the campaign about abortion. Romney will keep talking about the economy while Obama spends his time talking about killing late term babies.

No doubt the Democrats will want to talk ad nauseum about Obamacare’s contraception mandate. But even that is a loser for Obama. People don’t like the idea of government telling religious institutions they have to pay for contraception or abortions. People in this country still believe in religious freedom. If a war on women means Republicans expect women, and men for that matter, to pay for their own birth control, that’s a losing war for the Democrats. Especially when the economy is in the tank. People are more concerned about whether they’ll have a job next week. They aren’t much concerned over who is going to cover their $5 a month worth of birth control pills.

If you want to talk about a war on women, we need only look at the economy. There are 780,000 more unemployed women today than when Obama took office. Median household incomes have fallen nearly 5% since the recession ended, nearly double what they fell during the recession itself. That effects women more than men as women tend to control the household budget, especially the legion of housewives who aren’t interested in outside employment. Under Obama corn and soybeans have reached record high prices, which effects housewives and working women. Families have had to cut back on food expenditures or cut back on other things in their lives to pay for food. Obama of course refuses to eliminate ethanol subsidies, so we’re burning half of our corn via our cars. He also bought millions of pounds of meat to keep meat prices high, hurting families across the country.

It’s the Democrats who are waging war on women and in fact waging war on all of us. Obama is fundamentally transforming America into a giant welfare state, where job and economic growth is minimal. Obama wants to make the campaign about abortion, only the most ideological leftists think that’s the most important issue facing the country. Obama’s war on women goes far beyond abortion, his economic policies have hurt women more than men. His policies have increased inflation and increased the price of food. Nothing affects the family, women in particular, more than the price of household goods increasing. Yet Obama is unconcerned, continuing to promote ethanol and high meat prices. War on women? It’s not the Republicans waging war, it’s Barack Obama and the Democrats.

Bill Clinton Headlines Democrat Convention

Bill Clinton has been asked by President Obama to speak at the Democrat Convention and to nominate the President for re-election. Obama must be desperate to rely on Clinton to nominate him for re-election, much less take up a major primetime slot on the Convention. It’s hardly a secret that Bill wanted Hillary to run against Obama in the Democrat Primary. For the last year Bill has spent more time jabbing Obama and half back tracking then outright supporting the President. That he is being selected for such an important primetime slot is at best curious and at worst a sign of desperation.

It’s likely an act of desperation by Obama. He needs the sort of Democrats and independents that voted for Clinton twice and votes for Hillary in 2008. The Democrats are hemorrhaging among these voters who are largely white working class men. A recent Rasmussen poll showed that Romney was up 20 points with white voters. Obama cannot win re-election if Romney is winning white voters 60-40. Thus he’s going to his arch frienemy Bill Clinton for a major Convention speech. It’s a major risk for Obama but one he must believe he has to take.

Clinton won’t throw Obama under the bus at the convention of course. He’ll give a fine rah rah speech outlining why the Democrats are better than the Republicans. If Clinton does anything he’ll give such a fine speech that it overshadows Obama’s. Bill is more than capable of doing that so don’t be surprised when it happens and make no mistake it will be intentional on Bill’s part. Even if Clinton’s speech doesn’t overshadow Obama’s, look for him to take subtle jabs at Obama every so often for the next few months. Clinton doesn’t want Obama to win, he wants Hillary to face Romney in 2016 rather than have Hillary face the daunting task of winning a third Obama term.

If Clinton wasn’t interesting enough for the Democrat Convention, his warm act takes the cake. Indian squaw Elizabeth Warren has been tapped to warm the crowd up for Clinton. This is the same Elizabeth Warren who beat Obama to the “you didn’t build that” punch. In recent months she’s claimed to be the intellectual architect of Occupy Wall Street, she’s claimed she’ll be the savior of capitalism and Wall Street only to back peddle when everyone burst out laughing. This is the same woman who spent a quarter of a century lying about her racial and ethnic background in order to move up in the academic world.

It ought to be quite a night when Bubba and the Indian squaw take the stage for Obama. How desperate must Obama be to invite someone he knows will stab him in the back and a woman who is a known liar about her racial and ethnic heritage? At least we know what Clinton brings to the table for Obama but what does the Indian squaw bring? Is there really a Democrat constituency made up of people who lie about their race and ethnicity in order to move up in the racially charged liberal academic world that Obama needs to shore up? If not, there seems no reason why Warren would appeal to any independent white voters. After all, 25% of Obama voters in Massachusetts are poised to vote for Scott Brown in Warren’s Senate race.

Obama is nervous about his re-election chances, which means Romney really does have a shot. Just a few months ago, Romney was very much a long shot and Obama had little to worry about. With poor economic news and Obamacare back in the spotlight, Obama has a lot to worry about. So much so that he has to rely on Clinton to drum up support for him. There must be nothing worse for Obama than to be forced to rely on Bubba, who he must know will steal his thunder, at the Democrat Convention. Scary enough, Obama has likely talked himself into the idea that he’s one upped Clinton. The truth though is that Clinton is going to out shine Obama at the Convention and then he’s going to attack him during the campaign.

UPDATE:  Elizabeth Warren ought to be great to listen to before Clinton. She recently declared she wants the US to be like China and spend 9% of our GDP on internal improvements. This would require $1 trillion in additional Federal spending each year and it would require us to ignore the fact that China wastes a fortune building ghost cities and other structures that never even used.
